What Is BaseGold (BG)? A Beginner's Guide

BaseGold (BG) is a deflationary digital asset built on the Base network. The whole idea fits in one sentence: only 10,000 tokens will ever exist, and that supply only ever shrinks. This guide explains what that means and how to get started.

The Token: Extreme Scarcity

BaseGold launched with a fixed supply of 10,000 BG — about 2,100x fewer units than Bitcoin's 21 million cap. There's no mint function, so no new tokens can ever be created. If anything, the number in circulation goes down over time. (For the deep dive, read The Rarest Coin in Crypto.)

The Burns: Why Supply Shrinks

BaseGold uses six burn mechanisms that permanently destroy tokens: voluntary holder burns, MineSwap buyback-and-burn, mine plot purchases (0.10 BG each), in-game shop spending (100% burned), Gold Vein referral burns (5% per activation), and Golden Council protocol burns. Each one sends BG to a dead address it can never return from.

The Network: Base

Base is an Ethereum Layer 2, which means BaseGold transactions are fast (seconds, not minutes) and inexpensive, while still settling to Ethereum for security. You interact with BaseGold using a standard Web3 wallet.

The Games: Play to Burn

BaseGold isn't just a token — it's an ecosystem of competitive games where playing burns supply. The Mine, Gold Vein, and Season 3: WAR all route BG into permanent burns as you engage. Learn more in Play to Burn.

How to Get Started

  1. Set up a wallet. Use a self-custody wallet such as MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, or Rainbow.
  2. Get ETH on Base. You'll need a small amount of ETH on the Base network to cover transaction fees.
  3. Acquire BG. You can get BaseGold through the MineSwap DEX. Always confirm the official contract address from basegold.io first.
  4. Explore the ecosystem. Try the games, read the whitepaper, and learn the tokenomics.

Always do your own research and only ever transact with the official contract address published on basegold.io. Self-custody means you are responsible for your wallet's security.
